Phillips Creek Riverine Protection Permit

In 2011 whilst employed by BHP Billiton, Michael successfully secured a Riverine Protection Permit (RPP) for the Saraji East exploration team to develop an access track to support a mining exploration project.

The exploration team wanted to undertake works within the bed and banks of Phillips Creek in Central Queensland. Michael worked closely with the Field Operations team to determine the specifications for the creek crossing. He assisted the team to develop sketches of the proposed works and creek crossing  and to estimate the amount of material to be excavated and replaced, and worked with them to develop mitigation plans. Michael was responsible for documenting the proposed processes, associated environmental impacts and relevant mitigation strategies in a report to the State Government assessment agency. The report referenced appropriate environmental planning guidelines to indicate compliance with legislative requirements (namely the Guideline - Activities in a Watercourse, Lake, or Spring Associated with a Resource Activity or Mining Operation).

As a result, the permit was granted within two months of application, allowing the exploration works to continue as planned.
