Our experience in developing environmental management systems includes supporting the development of the ISO14001 certified system at Blackwater Mine.
The mine had elements of an environmental management system in place but they lacked comprehensive processes to identify their potential environmental risks, manage their environmental impacts and ensure compliance with legislative requirements.
We completed a gap analysis of the existing systems and procedures against the requirements of ISO14001 to identify opportunities for improvement.
The findings of the gap assessment informed a range of updates to the systems and procedures to meet ISO14001 requirements. Strategies included the identification of Significant Environmental Aspects across the site, the development and implementation of Management Plans and Procedures with specified objectives and targets to manage each Significant Environmental Aspect, and the delivery of environmental awareness training to all staff.
Blackwater Mine’s environmental management system was successfully certified against the ISO14001 Standard in 2002.
